As of January 17 2010, The Quebec Government has made driver education courses in Quebec mandatory for people who wish to obtain a drivers license.
The driving course consists of 24 hours of theory divided into 12 modules of 2 hours each.
In the fifth module you will be given and evaluation test of 30 multiple-choice questions. When you achieve 75% or higher you will be given a certificate to take to the S.A.A.Q, at which point they will issue you the permit. You must be 16 years old at the time of pick-up.
Once you receive your permit you may begin practical lessons. There is a total of 15 hours of in-car sessions with a certified instructor. On top of the hours we provide you with, this permit allows you to drive with anyone who has his or her license for a minimum of two years.
The entire course alternates between theory and practice until it is completed
10 months after you have received your learners permit; you will be required to pass another theoretical exam with the S.A.A.Q
12 months after you received your learner’s permit you will be required to pass your road test to receive your probationary license
